From the airport to the city center
There are several options to get from Henri Coandă airport (in Otopeni) to Bucharest. However, we strongly recommend the express bus 783, which goes from the airport to downtown Bucharest. It runs approximately every 20 minutes, daily, including weekends and holidays (every 40 minutes during the night). The timetable for departures from Henri Coandă Airport to the city center is available here. Expect the bus trip to be about 30 minutes long (or even longer during rush hours).
Bus cards are available at the kiosk, one floor below the arrival floor of the airport. Information about validation and card consultation are available here.
To get a cab, you need to order one from the electronic kiosk available right at the exit after the baggage belts and customs (yes, that crowded place where people wait for the travellers). Beware that not all taxi companies offer the same price per km! Take your receipt from the kiosk, go out to the curb, cross the street and wait for the taxi with your number to arrive in about 3 to 5 minutes. Each cab has a little 3 or 4 digit number on the side, different from its license plate number, often in an oval but not always. You have to select a cab company at the kiosk, and look for a cab from that company. All cabs have meters. It should be about 40 lei to downtown. The driver probably won’t speak English.
Alternatively, there are usually cabs waiting outside the airport. Pay attention to the fare they ask!

Romanian currency
Romanian currency is LEI (or RON), not Euro, so you should get lei from a cash machine at the airport. Roughly, 1 Euro = 4.7 lei, and 1 US$ = 4.2 lei. For up-to-date rates for all currencies, check rates, but expect all banks and exchange offices to have their own exchange rates.
